You are reading from the book Today's Gift

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.
--Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein knew in his heart that the source of all his knowledge was not himself, but a mystery - something or someone outside himself. And it left him in awe and wonder. He knew also that while genius may be ninety percent hard work and only ten percent inspiration, all the hard work in the world amounts to nothing without that outside, mysterious inspiration.

He was right. We can work hard and play hard. We can paint and draw and write and develop formulas all our lives, but none of it will be new or different unless we are open to inspiration from some power outside ourselves that also, somehow, is deep within us. To be really good at anything, whether it's playing baseball, designing fashion clothing, fixing an engine, or cooking, we must believe in some creative force that helps us excel. When we see that force at work, we stand in awe at the wonderful and mysterious gift we have been given.

How have I been inspired to discover something?

Five hour meeting…

without comments

hi -

Got up this morning, headed out to the front porch...
USUALLY-
I sit in the sun, and let the pain medication start it's work for the day,
Have a cup of coffee, read the 'Daily Meditations For Women' while I wait...
... while looking across Butte and the Continental Divide.

but THIS morning ...
I step out, coffee and Hazledon book in hand...
and the neighbor's abf is yarking off her front porch.
(our porches are barely fifteen feet away from each other)
:yikes: EEEEEEK-a-lah!

*and a good morning to YOU, too, I say!*

So I spun on my heel, and went back inside.
And went to my BACK porch to have my coffee and 'greet the day'.

I picked up the phone and called my neighbor
(mty back porch faces her house across the alley)
and asked her if she was going to a meeting today.
And could I hitch a ride.

I haven't been to a meeting in a month or so ...
and really, I wasn't even aware I was doing it
but I've been 'around' long enough to know there must be a reason.

okfine.

So I go back out to the front porch later in the morning -
figuring the coast was clear, right?

And I step out into the morning sunshine
and witness a very verbal quite abusive eviction
of the woman across the street.
Who is also active in her addiction.

I'm teetering on the reality myself
(possible eviction and all that)
and to witness the thing like that ...
didn't take much to feel the makings of a cave-in, you know?

oh yeah. Need a meeting.

what a coincidence - I've already arranged a ride.
I'm already GOING...

So I go -
it's a good meeting...
a woman there had her week-old baby...
and I'd calmed down and centered before they even read the Promises.
Funny how that is, isn't it?

So anyway, yadda yadda meeting...
get home ...
and people proceed to come visit.
One after the other.

It was so amazing, really.
I was in continual company until about five o'clock
when a friend said I looked tired and they should go.
and it was like the meeting never really broke up.

I told 'em about what had happened in the morning...
I mean, right at my front step were CONSEQUENCES of alcoholism.
man ya-hooing off the front porch
and a woman getting evicted.
WIth much drama volume obscenity and ... drama.

Nothing like a divine reminder that THAT life can be had again ...

It's always only one drink away.

I spent the entire day so very unspeakably grateful
that that is not my life any more.

*pause*
I'm grateful to be sober.
And I'm grateful to be here.

Recovery devotional bible….

without comments

Whoa - talk aboout all new perspective! Why didn't I know you could get these like 2yrs ago! Bit of a saga coming...

A few months ago I was on trade-me (NZ sad little equivalent of e-bay) and I bought was tittled "Recovery bible". I was surprised when I recieved it as it didn't seem to make mention of "recovery" at all and the whole thing was more footnotes then anything else, and as I went through it I was surprised to find some of the translations/footnotes a little off kilter to how I generally would interpret specific verses... So I did a little scratching into the theology and the publishing group and found that what I had purchased was more then a little dodgy and not aimed at recovery as I know it at all, but kind of a Christianity spin-off.

So I mentioned this to a friend of mine who is "super" intellegent (seriously gifted) and has studied theology for years and is active in evangalism and preaching ministries - and he went ballistic as he has had dealings with the publishing group before and thinks there is something pretty dodgy with them! Anyhow, so next thing I know he turns up on my doorstep with a Recovery devotional bible - NIV translation. What a difference! The daily meditations, footnotes, step references within verses etc etc have been such a gift! I had no idea that this sort of biblical support was available!

K - So the saga wasn't really nessecary BUT I guess what Im saying is laides and gents, if you don't already have one and are struggling with addictions as a Christian, try to get your hands on a Recovery devotional bible. You can apparently purchase them on Amazon in NLT and NIV translations. But make doubly sure you are getting a devotional bible, as there can be dodgy versions around. I plan on getting a couple more - for friends in recovery, or those I hope step forward onto a recovery journey.

Sooooooo inspirational....

Self Abuse

It's a hard thing for a self abuser to get too much of a bad thing.

Self abuse is the corner stone of addiction.
An improper cornerstone can support a shaky life.
*****
When I'm self-abusing, at least I am getting attention.

I had to share this.
It's friggin true and funny!
