Male/Female Principal
Something I have had on my mind for the past 50 years or so is what it means to be male and female.
The Chinese recognize that male and female have distinctive qualities. The most basic of these qualities being yen female and yang male.
Westerners seem to have concepts of male and female. Male dominate females passive seems to be something the west struggles with.
Yen and yang are very broad terms and are opposing one another.
Positive and negative. In and out, up and down ect ect...
Some questions I have had that I seek answers to are these:
Can a woman escape being female? Can a man escape being male?
What about spiritually? Why is my spirit using a female form? What lessons am I hear to learn? Why do I care?

Just Being Helpful
So, folks, despite the implication of the choices in the profiles section of this site, "male" and "female" are terms that denote sex, not gender. The term "sex" actually refers to the composition of one's physical body -- the term "gender," on the other hand, refers to how one behaves and identifies oneself. This is sometimes somewhat crudely and simplistically stated as "Sex is what's between your legs; gender is what's between your ears."
I'm posting this here because it bothers me when the terms "sex" and "gender" are used interchangeably (as they very often are in our culture) thereby implicitly but powerfully and pretty much pervasively reinforcing society's false (not to mention also ludicrous and hurtful) assumption that biological sex necessarily and invariably determines -- and should determine -- gender identity and behavior as well as sexual behavior.
Now, according to that assumption, everyone should, if they are healthy and "normal," "fall" either all the way down the far right side of the continuum below or all the way down the far left side: i.e. Women are females who experience and identify themselves and who behave in what is commonly referred to as a "feminine" manner and are attracted to males/men who behave in a masculine manner. As any GLBT person knows, that's pretty much b*llsh*t...but it's b*llsh*t that is used to enforce conformity and justify all kinds of discrimination, bigotry, and cruelty ......discrimination, bigotry and cruelty that is directly related to the fact that our GLBT communities suffer from alcoholism and addiction rates more that 3 times as high as those of the general population.
So, if anyone is interested in working to undermine those kind of dangerous assumptions and/or more honestly (and we are all working programs of rigorous honesty, right??) "denoting" his or her sex and gender on this site or anywhere else -- or even in thinking about these things in a way that isn't totally dichotomous and foolishly simplistic -- here's a little continuum chart to help get you started.
