One for the ladies
One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his Sweat- shirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?" "It depends," I replied. "What does it say on your shirt?" He yelled back, " University of Oklahoma " And they say blondes are dumb.

"It's just too hot to wear clothes today," Jack says as he stepped out of the shower, "Honey, what do you think the neighbors would think if I mowed the lawn like this?" "Probably that I married you for your money," she replied.

Q: What do you call an intelligent, good looking, sensitive man? A: A rumor
--------------------------------------
A man and his wife, now in their 60's, were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. On their special day a good fairy came to them and said that because they had been so good that each one of them could have one wish. The wife wished for a trip around the world with her husband. Whoosh! Immediately she had airline/cruise tickets in her hands. The man wished for a female companion 30 years younger... Whoosh...immediately he turned ninety!!! Gotta love that fairy!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Lord, I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; And Patience for his moods. Because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death. AMEN
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q: Why do little boys whine? A: They are practicing to be men.
---------------------------------------------
Q: What does it mean when a man is in your bed gasping for breath and calling your name? A: You did not hold the pillow down long enough.
---------------------------------------------
Q: Why do men whistle when they are sitting on the toilet? A: It helps them remember which end they need to wipe.
-------------------------------------------
Q: How do you keep your husband from reading your e-mail? A: Rename the mail folder "Instruction Manuals" ---------------------------------------------

JFT December 8th - Calling A Defect A Defect
December 8
Sometimes our readiness to have our character defects removed depends on what we call them. If misnaming our defects makes them seem less ?defective,? we may be unable to see the damage they cause. And if they seem to be causing no harm, why would we ever ask our Higher Power to remove them from our lives?
Take ?people pleasing,? for example. Doesn?t really sound all that bad, does it? It just means we?re nice to people, right? Not quite. To put it bluntly, it means we?re dishonest and manipulative. We lie about our feelings, our beliefs, and our needs, trying to soothe others into compliance with our wishes.
Or perhaps we think we?re ?easygoing.? But does ?easygoing? mean we ignore our housework, avoid confrontations, and stay put in a comfortable rut? Then a better name for it would be ?laziness,? or ?procrastination,? or ?fear.?
Many of us have trouble identifying our character defects. If this is the case for us, we can talk with our sponsor or our NA friends. We clearly and honestly describe our behavior to them and ask for their help in identifying our defects. As time passes, we?ll become progressively better able to identify our own character defects, calling them by their true names.
Just for today: I will call my defects by their true names. If I have trouble doing this, I will ask my sponsor for help.

Spending a weekend half-drunk
Alcoholism is present on both sides of my family. I've had a tendency to drink too much at once since I was 18, but those times were few and far between.
Now, like many here, I am seeking help and a way to get out of this hell.
I won't go into thembarassing things I've done,.....but I would like to tell you how I got here, noting that I'm not excusing myself, but explaining how alcohol became a crutch.
About 8 years ago, my job became increasinglt stressful, my boss increasingly a power hungry arse. I started to drink in the evenings, began to get depressed (but didn't know what it was) and drank more to ease that feeling.
Then my mother got diagnosed with Cancer, which invited more alcohol, more depression. 2 months after my Mom died, my wife filed for divorce, and sudddenly not only was my Mom gone, but now my wife and kids. My wife was aslo drinking heavily, and we weren't happy. I'd plead with her to slow down, because I was trying desperately to. All our friends were heavy drinkers.
I almost lost my licence shortly after my wife left, but the Police Officer, God Bless him took me home instead.
My depression is getting better, but I'm still having troble with alcohol.
I convince myself that I've got ahold of it, and am controlling it now, but that's not true, and eventually the amount creeps back up.
I don't believe moderation can work for me.............right now I'm sipping on Vodka and water, sparingly to try and control the withdrawal symptoms and wean off.
I look forward to being a member here, and hope you can inspire me, and that later I can inspire others.
I took last Friday off to get some yardwork and housework don, and spent it instead drinking, then picking my kids up. I was never totally blitzed, and have improved, but I DID drink about 15 drinks each day. I'm tired of this.

really down
Hi
sorry about this but I am so down today. It seems like since I've stopped drinking, everything has become much more 'real'. I know that, in reality this is a 'good' thing, but it scares me. My husband is at work, the children at school and nursery and I have another day to get through. I am looking so hard for a job, but am failing at ever turn. I am a highly qualified social worker but no-one seems to want me. I kind of thought I would walk into another job after leaving my last one - long and unpleasant story - but it's just not happening. To be honest, there's only so much housework i can do!! We need my income so badly, but all i want to do is run away and sit on a greek island somewhere with a large bottle of wine. Does anyone understand? What can I do?
Thanks
Sorry for being so self-indulgent..

Get Busy Living…We`re Worth it All
Did you ever find that some days you read or hear the same thing over and over and wonder if it's a coincidence or your HP is trying to tell you something.
Twice today I have heard "You can live in the problem or you can live in the solution...it's up to you to choose."
And twice, not once but twice again, I heard that line from The Shankshaw Redemption `Get busy living or get busy dying`
I think someone is telling me to find some positive energy and start living my life as if it were worthwhile.
Or maybe there`s just an echo in here. :D
I think I will start by taking a drive in the country tomorrow and picking up some fresh vegetables and fruit at a roadside stand and maybe a fresh pumpkin pie.
And maybe I`ll take some time to stop for a new hairstyle, or at least a trim and a new colour.
My husband begins vacation Monday and we are heading up north of Lake Superior for a week....and I promise you I will be living well in my favourite neck of the woods hiking by day and nice drives looking for bear and moose, and then a nice hotel at the end of the day...with room service of course :D
A week of no work, no cooking, no housework....just living it well and enjoying each day.
Okay, so maybe we can`t all take a week off and head north, maybe I`m just having a lucky week....but you CAN get busy living if you set your mind to it.
How about you, I double dog dare you to get busy living well this weekend...and of course share it with all of us. :a122:
Tell us your plans to get busy living.
Hugs
