Question about AA
I have a non medical question to ask all of you who attend AA.
I have seriously been thinking about attending AA. But here is the possible conflict.
I found out before a had my gallbladder removed last Friday that I was to begin IOP for severe depression, My psychiatrist also up'd my mood stabalizers. I wasn't able to attend IOP this week or meet with my therapist for the first time because of the surgery. I will begin IOP next week, as well as start visiting with my therapist.
Ok - finally here's the question. Do you think it would be a good idea to start AA while I'm having these problems, and going to IOP, or wait until I am more stable.
I appoligize if this is a silly question.

My 18 yo AS…
He came up clean on a drug test 3 days ago. He came up dirty yesterday. He of course says that can't be right, etc., etc., etc. He is currently in a IOP. He goes to meetings 3 nights a week; however, he has not gone to 1 AA or NA meeting. I don't think he has gone more than a week without using Oxycontin. He also came up dirty for methampetamines. He is in this program because that is a requirement for him to live at home. I told him last week if he didn't pass a drug test here at home (which I give him every 2 days) he would have to go into a residential program if he wanted to continue living here.
So, I am trying to find a program this morning. He has agreed to go; however, only because that is our requirement; not because he wants to. I am in a bit of a quandry because I know he should be asking for help, not doing it just because we told him to. But I don't think it will hurt him to go. My insurance will pay for 30 days a year. I figure he can go for 30 days and if it gets him away from access to the drug then he has a fighting chance. If he relapses when he gets out, then I can send him for another 30 days after the new year starts, but only if he asks for help.
My therapist says that he gets people sent to him because of the courts, etc. that don't want to be there and are resentful. However, the therapy ends up helping them anyway. So he says that this will only help him and get him clean for at least 30 days.
This is so hard! I love my son to pieces and want him back!

Need some feedback
I have been gone for some time but continue to read and learn from others. Since the last time I was here my 22 year old AD had 1 year and then relapsed. After a short time out using she herself decided she needed to go back into a 30 inpatient rehab. This was the 1st time she did it all on her own, from making calls to going to detox and then being accepted in. Unfortunately while in she "fell in Love" with a nother client. As soon as they got out they started dating. After about 2 1/2 months he dumped her. Not sure why but of course she was having a hard time accepting this. While dating they both relapsed. She even went so far as to get a DUI. She is living at home and had a job. Everything started going down hill, boyfriend dumped her, she was suspended from work for being late consistantly, and they discharged her from her IOP for her multiple relapses. They were considering her for a more intense IOP or a longer term program. Here is the problem. We live in IL and I just tracked her phone and she is now in FL. She
is on probation from past issues and we are not sure if we should let her PO know or just sit back and let her live her life and deal with the outcome as it happens. I think I may have just answered my own question. Anyway, does
anyone have thoughts that could possibly help us?

Night Time is the worse for me…
I used to drink and got/stayed sober for almost 10 years. Got injured, added Narcs to my addiction and then came completely unraveled. I'm only days into recovery again. (On both).
I swear that mornings are beautiful, no problem, afternoons get a little difficult, but the new IOP classes help that, it's like taking crap one second at a time. Stay up all night biting nails, pacing, eating, watching TV... SLEEP would be good, just want to sleep. Is it "night time" for everyone or is the "trigger time" different for everyone.
I remember learning in detox in the 90's for alcohol that a disporportionate amount of addicts were "night owls", "liked thunderstorms" and "were very creative". I guess these were personality traits that soared among users. Is/Was this true? It seems like when the sun goes down is when things really ged hard. (I can't stop posting tonight, it's keeping me busy).
