movies…
I've been feeling nervous and blue... Anybody have any good movie recommendations for the sake of distraction? Preferably humor- they say laughter is good medicine...:thanks:
The Secret Life of Bees
I saw this movie today and it was so good that I just wanted to encourage you all to see it. It has nothing to do with addiction, just one of those laugh some, cry some type movies. I left the movie feeling really good - my heart was warmed. It has a great cast too.
I read the book a couple of years ago and loved it, the movie is just as good as the book IMO.
By the way I inspire to be a bee keeper once we retire and move from the suburbs - this has been a dream of mine for some time.

14 days, the things I’ve done for the first time sober
Today is 14 days of no booze or pot (the pot only was smoked after 3 drinks, so yes, a lot too). I am feeling good.
Some of the things I have done for the first time SOBER, thus far:
Went to dinner at great restaurants that serve wine and beer.
Went to dinner with my family (who didn't feel the pressure to drink then!? ha):e088:
Went to a concert- one of my favorite bands actually!
Went to Disneyland (I always drank in Downtown Disney AND California Adventure)
Went on a bike ride and stopped as usual, this time for a Jamba Juice, instead of beer.
Had a BBQ at home on the weekend- with NO BEER or WINE- wow.:c029:
Went to the movies and dinner after- always always that was time for beer- I made it thru the movie with no drink, right! Now it's party time- NOT.
And tonight is the Jewish holiday to celebrate the New Year at my mom's house- ALWAYS drink plenty on those occasions- but I will not be dong that tonight.
Life is much richer today. It's so nice to know that when I am laughing hard, that it is coming from a true place.
Thank you for reading.
Best to all :01:

Some Movies
Okay, another of my many forms of escapism. Movies, had a couple questions maybe some folks know,. I have rented Baby Momma with Amy Pohler, and Atonement with James McEvoy (yummy) anyway, any opinions on either? Those of you who know me know I am on a tales from the crypt kick, so I decided to change it up. need somthing funny!!! Kind of afraid of the love story since Im so alone, but if its a great movie, like Pearl Harbor or something, Im down with it.
ANYWAY, another Becky thread(I can hear the groans, lol) but I want some REALLY good movies that have come out lately. I have missed alot with my exclusively Tales FTC. But want to catch up. I can rent on Netflix (cant say enough about their speed and service) and Blockbuster Online. ANY one who can recommend.
My true genre is horror, but here lately, well, they all SUCK. NOTHING is scary. Iheard the Orphanage is GREAT, but all in Spanish with English subtitles. I do good to follow the plot, let alone watch and read at once!!!! GAG, I heard Pans Labyrinth was great, but SAME THING. I HATE subtitles. Ok, so anyone, :PLEASE just humor me like with the music thread, just humor me, when you have a second or two. Couple years ago, I had a movie thread, dont know what I did with it. ANyway, heres a new one. THANKS FOR BEING SO GOOD TO ME guys!!!! Ok, so Baby Momma and Atonement. Opinions? And what are some more goodies out there??

For all the readers in our group
Now I know he was not a biker but........ I am sure everyone on here at one time or another has heard of Chris Farley, yes The Saturday Night Live Chris Farley. I read the book his brother wrote about him. "The Chris Farley Show" talk about sobering WOW!!! His brother held back on NOTHING!!! It makes you realize a lot about the power of addiction and that the people you surround yourself (with even family)affects whether or not you can stay sober. I was a big fan of his as he rose through the ranks from SNL to the movies. This is def. a good read. I guarantee anyone who finishes this book will realize how much having HP is. It was really sad to read about someone so talented and that gave so much of himself to others let self loathing and need to please others turn him to multiple addictions. Seriously, if you are a reader it is def. worth the time and the self reflection afterwards!!! :a194:
