Drinkaware Launches Campaign For A Christmas To Remember, UK
The Drinkaware Trust (Drinkaware), a UK charity which aims to reduce alcohol harm, has launched a new campaign to help partygoers have a merry - and memorable - Christmas. Entitled 'Tips for a Christmas to remember', Drinkaware is issuing guidance to the public on how to manage their consumption - and the effects of over- consumption - at a time when many will find themselves drinking more alcohol than usual.

Mayo Clinic Seeks New Therapies For Alcoholic Hepatitis
A new study from Mayo Clinic finds the use of the drug therapy etanercept ineffective in treating alcoholic hepatitis, an acute inflammation of the liver caused by excessive consumption of alcohol. The results of the study are published in the December issue of Gastroenterology (http://www.gastrojournal.org). Alcoholic hepatitis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.

Younger Alcoholic Men At Risk For Osteoporosis
Low bone mass, or osteoporosis, is a known consequence of alcoholism, especially in older alcoholics. However, a new study shows that younger male alcoholics are also at increased risk for osteoporosis. People with osteoporosis, no matter what the cause, are at an increased risk for fractures and poor fracture healing.

Doctors Often Skip Health Behavior Conversations With Teens
Although national health guidelines call for physicians to discuss topics such as substance use, safety and nutrition with adolescents, new research suggests that these talks do not occur as often as they should. "The guidelines say that adolescents should have an annual visit that provides screening and guidance about high-risk health behaviors," said lead study author Sally Adams, R.N., Ph.D.
